The Mexican Raccoon subspecies is found throughout most of Mexico in virtually every habitat from seacoast to highland forest. It is slightly smaller than many North American subspecies and shows the same opportunistic foraging behavior as raccoons worldwide. Mexican raccoons have adapted well to urbanization and are commonly seen raiding garbage cans in Mexican cities.
