Safety note: May carry rabies — do not approach or handle.
The Eastern Small-footed Bat is one of North America's smallest bats and one of the most cold-tolerant, frequently found hibernating near the cold entrances of caves where other bats avoid. Its tiny feet—less than 8 mm long—and black facial mask are key field marks. Unfortunately, this bat has been particularly hard hit by White-nose Syndrome, a devastating fungal disease affecting hibernating bats.
