The Eastern Small-footed Myotis is one of North America's smallest bats, weighing only 4–6 grams, and is identified by its tiny feet, black mask, and yellowish-brown fur. It hibernates in cold rock crevices near cave entrances where most other bat species refuse to roost. The species has been severely impacted by White-nose Syndrome and is a candidate for federal listing.
