The Round-tailed Muskrat is a smaller, round-tailed relative of the common muskrat found only in Florida and extreme southeastern Georgia. Unlike the common muskrat, it builds small, grass-thatched houses just above the waterline rather than dome-shaped cattail lodges. It is closely associated with maidencane grass flats and wet prairies unique to the Florida peninsula.
