The San Cristobal Shrew is known from only a single specimen collected in the cloud forests near San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas, Mexico. Nothing is known about its ecology, habitat preferences, or population status. It may represent a highly localized endemic or could be more widespread but simply uncollected due to the difficulty of shrew survey work in remote Mexican highlands.
