Sometimes placed in its own genus Lagurus, the Sagebrush Vole is characteristic of open sagebrush habitats across the Great Basin. Its pale sandy gray coat provides good camouflage among bleached grass stems and sagebrush litter. Population densities fluctuate considerably from year to year in response to rainfall and food availability.
