The Sable is an Asian marten whose fur was among the most prized in history, driving the Russian eastward expansion across Siberia. It is mentioned here as it has been suggested to have historically crossed the Bering Land Bridge and may occur in extreme western Alaska on rare occasions. Its behavior and ecology are nearly identical to the American marten.
