The Painted Spiny Pocket Mouse is a colorful heteromyid with prominent white and orange markings on its sides and a particularly long, white-tipped tail. It inhabits tropical dry forests on Mexico's Pacific slope and is nocturnal and secretive. Like other spiny pocket mice, it transports seeds in its external cheek pouches to underground caches.
