Illustration of Minke Whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata)

The Minke Whale is the smallest and most abundant of the rorqual whales in North Atlantic and North Pacific waters. Its pointed rostrum, white flipper band, and tendency to surface close to boats make it the most frequently observed large whale on whale-watching trips. Minke whales are notably curious about vessels and will sometimes approach and circle stationary boats.
