Illustration of Mountain Goat (Oreamnos americanus)

The Mountain Goat is a sure-footed climber of steep cliff faces and rocky alpine terrain, aided by hooves with hard outer edges and soft, grippy inner pads. Both males and females carry short, sharp black horns they use in social conflicts. Their dense, woolly white coat provides insulation against harsh mountain winters and acts as camouflage in snowy landscapes.
