Illustration of Tree Cricket (Anurogryllus arboreus)

The Tree Cricket (Anurogryllus arboreus) is a small, stocky cricket that inhabits leaf litter and burrows in soil in wooded areas, unlike most tree crickets which live in vegetation. Males produce a loud, persistent chirp from burrows in fall. Its short wings prevent flight but it is an active runner.
