The Aztec Mouse is a large, long-tailed Peromyscus of montane forests in Mexico and Central America, rarely observed because of its restricted high-altitude habitat. It inhabits cloud forests and pine-oak woodlands above 2,000 meters. The species was described from specimens collected near Aztec village sites in the Mexican highlands in the 19th century.
