The Baja California Rock Squirrel is the Baja Peninsula counterpart to the California Rock Squirrel, with a distinctive dark-capped head and similar rocky, canyon-edge habitat preferences. It is endemic to the Baja California Peninsula and does not occur on the North American mainland. This squirrel fills the same ecological role as its relative—a large, bold squirrel of rocky desert country.
