The Emerald Spreadwing is a metallic green damselfly that holds its wings partially spread at rest — unlike most damselflies which fold wings over the body — a diagnostic trait of the spreadwing family. It breeds in slightly acidic, still ponds and lakes with emergent vegetation. Males often hold territories by hovering over water.
