The Black Jackrabbit is found only on Espiritu Santo Island in the Gulf of California, Mexico—an island considered part of the North American territory. It is entirely black above, a melanism found in island populations of many species. As an island endemic, it is vulnerable to introduced predators and habitat disturbance.
