The Black Myotis is one of the most abundant small bats in Latin America, found from Mexico through South America. It forms large maternity colonies in buildings and hollow trees throughout the tropics. Despite its name, it is typically dark brown rather than black. It is a generalist insectivore that forages in forest edge and open habitats.
