The Hooded Oriole is a slender oriole of the southwestern US and Mexico, the male bearing a vivid orange hood and black back, bib, and wings. It often nests in palm trees, stitching its hanging pouch nest to the underside of palm fronds. It has expanded northward and is now a common backyard visitor in California, attracted to feeders with nectar and orange halves.
