The Horned Lark is the only true lark native to North America and the only lark in the Americas. It breeds from the High Arctic to alpine meadows and agricultural fields. The yellow face and black chest band — with tiny 'horn' feather tufts — are distinctive. It is often the only bird visible in bleak winter fields.
