Illustration of Hutton's Vireo (Vireo huttoni)

Hutton's Vireo closely resembles a Ruby-crowned Kinglet in plumage and behavior but is slightly larger with a heavier bill. It is the only vireo that does not migrate in the western US — a permanent resident of oak woodlands on the Pacific Slope. Its slow, wheezy, repeated 'zweeo' call is the best identification cue.

Habitat
Oak woodlands and canyons of the Pacific Slope and southwestern mountains
Diet
Insects and spiders gleaned from oak foliage
