The Hispid Pocket Mouse is the largest pocket mouse in North America, with coarse, hispid (bristly) fur along its rump and back. It is found across the southern Great Plains and into Mexico, inhabiting grasslands with sandy or gravelly soil for burrowing. Like other pocket mice, it uses its fur-lined cheek pouches to transport seeds to underground larders.
