The Veery is named for its song — a descending, ethereal, spiraling 'veery-veery-veery' that is one of the most haunting sounds in the eastern forest. It is the warmest-toned of the spotted thrushes, with a tawny back and lightly spotted breast. It prefers moist forest with a thick understory.
