The Vesper Sparrow is a streaked grassland sparrow named for the evening hours when its rich, melodious song is most frequently heard. The white outer tail feathers flashing in flight and the small chestnut shoulder patch are distinctive field marks. It is found across open grasslands and agricultural areas of North America.
