The White-throated Sparrow has two distinct color morphs — white-striped and tan-striped — that preferentially mate with the opposite morph, creating a persistent genetic polymorphism. Its pure, whistled 'Old Sam Peabody Peabody Peabody' song is one of the most beloved sounds of northeastern woods. It winters abundantly across the US and visits feeders for millet and seeds.
