The White-throated Swift is the fastest bird in North America capable of straight-line flight, reaching speeds estimated at 200 mph in steep dives. It is boldly patterned in black and white with a striking white throat and flanks. It nests in rock crevices on cliff faces throughout the West and is a master aerialist, mating in free fall.
