The Magdalena Rat is a little-known rodent endemic to a tiny area of tropical deciduous forest along the Pacific Coast of Jalisco, Mexico. It belongs to its own monotypic genus and has no close relatives among the North American cricetid rodents. Almost nothing is known about its behavior, reproduction, or population status.
