The Northern Broken-Dash is a medium-sized, dark brown skipper with a distinctive broken stigma (scent-patch) on the male forewing that gives it its common name. Males perch on vegetation at head height and are fast, alert fliers that take off instantly when approached. The pale spots on the forewing are small and easily overlooked in the field.
