The Yellow-pine Chipmunk is a bright, boldly striped chipmunk common in ponderosa pine and yellow-pine forests of the Sierra Nevada and Great Basin ranges. It is active and vocal during summer, filling its cheek pouches with seeds and storing them in extensive underground caches for the winter. This chipmunk is shallower in its winter torpor than many related species and may wake periodically to feed.
