The Gaspe Shrew is an extremely rare, rock-crevice-dwelling shrew found only in the Gaspe Peninsula of Quebec and adjacent portions of New Brunswick and Maine. It is very similar to the long-tailed shrew and was only described as a separate species in 1938. Its restricted range and specialized rocky habitat make it one of Canada's most vulnerable shrews.
