The Broad-footed Mole is the common mole of California and adjacent Nevada and Oregon, recognizable by its broad, shovel-like forefeet and velvety silver-gray fur. It thrives in a wide variety of soil types and habitat conditions, from sea-level valleys to mountain meadows over 10,000 feet. Mole runways are used repeatedly and are detectable as raised ridges on lawns and gardens.
