Sandbar Willow is a slender, colony-forming shrub that dominates gravel bars and sandbars along rivers and streams across most of North America. It stabilizes streambanks and provides cover for nesting yellowthroats, yellow warblers, and other riparian birds. Its leaves are a major food source for cottonwood dagger moths and other specialist insects.
