Round-leaved Pyrola is a small evergreen wildflower of acidic northern forests, producing basal rosettes of round, glossy leaves and slender stalks of nodding, white to pale pink, waxy flowers in summer. Found across boreal North America and mountain forests, it is partially mycoheterotrophic, deriving some nutrients from mycorrhizal fungi. The fragrant flowers are pollinated by small bees and flies. Round-leaved Pyrola is a quiet but characteristic species of undisturbed northern forests.
