Moss Phlox is a low-growing, mat-forming phlox that covers rocky outcrops and dry slopes with a carpet of pink, lavender, or white flowers in spring. Native to the eastern United States in rocky and sandy habitats, it forms dense mats of needle-like evergreen leaves just 3–6 inches tall. Moss Phlox is one of the most commonly cultivated native groundcovers, valued for its spring flower display and ability to grow in dry, rocky, infertile soils. After flowering, the foliage remains attractive as a year-round groundcover.

Habitat
Found on rocky slopes, outcrops, sandy barrens, and dry hillsides in the eastern United States.
Diet
Provides early spring nectar for mining bees, swallowtail butterflies, and sphinx moths.
