Safety note: May carry rabies — do not approach or handle.

The Tricolored Bat (formerly Eastern Pipistrelle) is easily recognized by the three-toned banding of each individual hair: dark base, pale middle, and dark tip. It is a small, early-emerging bat that forages in open woodland areas and over water. White-nose Syndrome has caused severe population declines across its range, leading to federal listing discussions.
