Water Tupelo is a large wetland tree of the southeastern United States, growing in permanently flooded swamps and river bottoms with a distinctive swollen, buttressed trunk base that provides stability in soft, waterlogged soils. Its dark blue fruits are an important food for wood ducks, mallards, and raccoons. The honey produced from its flowers is prized as 'tupelo honey.'
