The Long-tailed Vole is one of the more arboreal voles of western North America, often climbing shrubs and the lower branches of conifers to reach food. Its tail is longer relative to body length than most other North American voles, which may assist in balance during climbing. It inhabits a broad range of environments from desert riparian areas to subalpine meadows.
