Safety note: May carry rabies — do not approach or handle.

The Common Big-eared Bat is a small phyllostomid bat with very large, separate ears and a pointed nose leaf, found throughout the lowland tropics of Mexico and Central America. It is a gleaner that passively listens for the sounds of insects on leaf surfaces rather than relying primarily on active echolocation. It roosts in caves, hollow trees, and culverts.
