The Chinese Pangolin is a critically endangered insectivore covered in overlapping keratin scales—the only scaled mammal. While not native to North America, it is included here as it is occasionally confiscated in smuggling operations at North American ports of entry, representing the world's most trafficked mammal group. Pangolins roll into a ball when threatened, a defense that unfortunately makes them easy for poachers to collect.
