The Tehuantepec Jackrabbit is critically endangered and found only in a tiny area of coastal Oaxaca, Mexico. It is distinguished by a pale buff nape and whitish sides and inhabits the narrow coastal grasslands bordering the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. Fewer than 1,000 individuals are estimated to survive due to habitat loss from agriculture and cattle ranching.
