The White-sided Jackrabbit is a large, distinctive hare with stark white flanks that are exposed when the animal runs, serving as a visual alarm signal to conspecifics. It inhabits the Chihuahuan Desert grasslands of New Mexico and Mexico and has declined significantly due to habitat degradation. In the United States, it is found only in Hidalgo County, New Mexico.
