Illustration of Brown Lacewing (Hemerobius humulinus)

The Brown Lacewing is a small, delicate insect with brown mottled wings held tent-like over its body, providing excellent camouflage against bark. Like its green relatives, both larvae and adults are voracious aphid predators and play an important role in biological pest control. It is attracted to lights at night and more commonly encountered indoors than green lacewings.
