Green Ash is the most widespread ash species in North America, naturally occurring in bottomland forests from Canada to Florida. It was widely planted as a street and shade tree but has suffered catastrophic losses to emerald ash borer. Its seeds (samaras) are an important food for wood ducks, purple finches, and small mammals.
