Hairawn Muhly is a native bunchgrass of eastern coastal plain habitats that produces stunning clouds of airy, pink-to-purple seed plumes in October. The fall color display is spectacular and has made it one of the most popular native grasses in horticulture. It provides nesting cover and seeds for grassland birds in its native longleaf pine savanna and coastal plain habitats.
