The Sweetbay Silkmoth is a large, reddish-brown silkmoth restricted to the Gulf and South Atlantic coastal plain where sweetbay magnolia grows. It resembles the Promethea Silkmoth but with more pointed wing tips and different host plant associations. Males fly by day while females are nocturnal. This species is dependent on the coastal swamp forests where sweetbay is common.
