The Giant Water Bug is one of the largest insects in North America, reaching 2.5 inches, with powerful raptorial forelegs used to capture prey as large as small frogs, fish, and even baby ducks. Males carry eggs on their backs until they hatch, a form of paternal care rare among insects. They are attracted to lights and are sometimes called 'electric light bugs.'
