Smooth Aster is a tall, drought-tolerant native wildflower of dry prairies and open woodlands with smooth, waxy, clasping leaves and lavender-blue flowers in late summer. It is one of the most important late-season nectar plants in eastern and central North America, supporting migrating monarchs and last-flight native bees. Its willingness to grow in difficult conditions makes it valuable for restoration.
