The Variable Dancer is a violet-and-black damselfly that 'dances' as it flies — producing a characteristic fluttery, undulating flight pattern. Males are stunning violet-blue with black rings while females are tan or violet. It is commonly found along streams and rivers perching on rocks and bare ground.
