Illustration of Hoary Edge (Achalarus lyciades)

The Hoary Edge is a medium-sized spread-wing skipper with a large, creamy-white outer hindwing patch that gives it a frosted appearance — the 'hoary edge.' It is related to the Silver-spotted Skipper and shares a similar habitat preference for forest edges and open woods. It holds its wings flat when nectaring rather than raising the forewings like many skippers.
