Nannyberry is a large native shrub or small tree of moist forests and forest edges that produces large, flat-topped white flower clusters in spring followed by clusters of blue-black berries in fall. The sweet berries are edible and were used by indigenous peoples. They are an important food source for cedar waxwings, robins, and many other birds.
