Painted Trillium is one of the most beautiful spring wildflowers in eastern North America, with white petals marked with a distinctive red-to-pink inverted V stripe at the base. It grows in cool, acidic, moist forests with hemlock and yellow birch in the Appalachians and New England. It is more restricted in its habitat requirements than other trilliums and is often uncommon.
