Illustration of American Badger (Taxidea taxus)

The American Badger is a powerfully built burrowing predator with long front claws adapted for rapid excavation of prey underground. Its flattened body allows it to follow ground squirrels and pocket gophers directly into their burrows. Badgers occasionally hunt cooperatively with coyotes, flushing prey for each other in a remarkable cross-species partnership.
